Governor to Sign Budget

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is going to sign a new $77.1 billion budget into law.

Scott is scheduled to sign the new state budget on Monday. Scott will also likely veto millions in individual spending items in the state budget. The governor has line-item veto power to eliminate spending on specific projects.

Unlike past years Scott is not expected to have a public signing of the state budget.

The new budget is 3.5 percent higher than last year's budget and includes a boost in money for schools, child welfare and projects to battle water pollution.

Legislators came into this year's session with a $1.2 billion budget surplus. They used some of the extra money on dozens of hometown projects.
